Teacher Access to the NIET Best Practices Portal

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) Best Practices Portal is an interactive Web tool that provides resources and support for educators. Most teachers and administrators already have access to the Portal. Directions for accessing the website can be found on the Teacher Model tab in the Preparing and Supporting Staff section. Non-Tested Grades and Subjects Pilot Update

An update on the measures being studied for non-tested grades and subjects growth measures has been released. This document outlines specific assessments that are being studied for multiple educator groups. It is also available on the Teacher Model tab, in the Growth Data (35%) section.

Score Calculator and Tracker

A TEAM Score Calculator and Tracker has been added to the Ratings and Outcomes section of the Teacher Model Page. This resource allows educators and evaluators to see how scores on the three components of the Teacher Model are combined into an overall effectiveness rating. The second tab allows educators to track their observation scores by indicator and calculates a running average of the qualitative score.

Observation Pacing Guide

A new observation pacing guide has been posted that aligns with the new State Board of Education approved policy change to provide flexibility in conducting two observations in a single classroom visit. This document has previously been distributed by the Weekly TEAM Update.

TVAAS Composites for Teachers in Tested Grades and Subjects

A new document has been added to the 35% Growth Measures section of the Teacher Model tab. This document provides information TVAAS scores for teachers in tested grades and subjects and includes a Frequently Asked Questions section.

New Tabs

The TEAM webpages have been updated and now features two new tabs: Teacher Model and Administrator Model. The Teacher Model tab includes all of the information from the previous Educator Resources page about the teacher evaluation system. The Administrator Model tab has been added to make resources for principal and assistant principal evaluation easier to access. The layout and resources on this page have not changed and the Administrator page is similar.

More Information About Achievement Measures

Additional information about Approved Achievement Measures has been added. These documents can be used by teachers and evaluators as they meet to choose a measure. If you have additional questions about this process, please email team.questions@tn.gov.

Recertification Registration Closing - Friday, June 8

Registration for recertification training, for all currently certified observers who will be conducting evaluations next school year, will be available through Friday, June 8. Registration will close at that time to allow for a final count of participants for planning purposes and to determine materials necessary for each session. All other training registration will remain open to allow new hires to register for necessary sessions.

Applications due April 15 for those districts choosing to apply for TEAM flexibility or to implement a new evaluation model in the 2012-13 school year.
