NIET Best Practices Portal Access

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) Best Practices Portal is an interactive Web tool that provides resources and support for educators. Most teachers and administrators statewide have already been uploaded for access to the Portal and more are being added regularly.

Principal Evaluation

The Department of Education has introduced a new evaluation process for principals and assistant principals. All Directors of Schools were invited to attend webinars on the process last week. In order to help principals and assistant principals learn about the new system a video presentation is available at the Tennessee Electronic Learning Center (www.tnelc.org) under Administrator Resources. In addition, information and the relevant forms are available here under Educator Resources. Be sure to clear your cache so that you are seeing the most updated forms; for most browsers you will find this option under Tools.

Achievement Measures

All evaluation models incorporate an achievement measure as 15% of the final rating. Guidance on selecting and scoring these measures is now available on the Educator Resources page.

TEAM Evaluator Training

Training sessions will be offered across the state for administrators who still need to be trained and certified as observers/evaluators. This is a great time to think about whether you need to expand your team of observers. There will be nine four-day training sessions offered from late September through mid-October. Registration opens September 1. Please visit the Electronic Learning Center to register. Click on Fall 2011 TEAM Training on the left side of the page.

Recertification Registration Closing - Friday, June 8

Registration for recertification training, for all currently certified observers who will be conducting evaluations next school year, will be available through Friday, June 8. Registration will close at that time to allow for a final count of participants for planning purposes and to determine materials necessary for each session. All other training registration will remain open to allow new hires to register for necessary sessions.

Flexibility Applications - Due April 15th

Applications due April 15 for those districts choosing to apply for TEAM flexibility or to implement a new evaluation model in the 2012-13 school year.
