According to state board rule 0520-02-01 and state board policy 5.201, all educators must be evaluated annually by a certified evaluator.
- The department conducts initial certification and recertification training, administers certification tests, issues evaluator credentials, and provides continuous evaluator support for the TEAM rubric.
- To conduct observations, evaluators must be certified.
- Evaluations conducted by non-certified evaluators are inadmissible and are grounds for a grievance.
- Certification entails participating in an official state-sponsored TEAM training and passing the subsequent online certification test.
- Certification is valid through June 30 of the current school year regardless of the certification date.
- All evaluator certification training for 2025-26 is virtual.
- The window for recertification is from June 2, 2025 to September 3, 2025, 5:00pm CT.
- The window for initial certification is from June 2, 2025 to March 31, 2026, 5:00pm CT.
- All evaluator certification from 2024-25 is valid until June 30, 2025.
- All evaluator certification from 2025-26 is valid until June 30, 2026.
- All certification courses will be accessed in the TeachALL platform. You will need to access the courses with your Single Sign On. For more information about SSO visit the TN.gov website or contact DT.Support@tn.gov.
- If you do not have an SSO you can create your own TeachALL account and enroll with that account.

Initial teacher evaluator certification
|
The initial teacher evaluator certification process is designed to prepare evaluators to evaluate teachers and other school service personnel.
- When the TEAM Training window is open, follow this link to the TeachALL platform. You will be asked to sign in with your SSO or self-created TeachALL account. After you have logged in to TeachALL, use this link to self-enroll in the TEAM Teacher Evaluator Certification course. After you click “Enroll”, the course will appear in your Learner Home tab in TeachALL.
- Once the test is passed, click the “Submit” button to finish the module. You must hit Submit to finish the course and submit your scores.
- Credentialed status will automatically be reflected in TNCompass within 7-10 business days.
- Districts must staff evaluators in TNCompass as observers before evaluations may be conducted.
- The department no longer issues a certificate at the end of evaluator courses. Evaluators can save their TASL email as proof of completion.
- TASL Credit:
- Completion of the course is awarded 14 TASL credit hours.
- An email confirming TASL credit will be sent to the participant within 7-10 business after course completion.
- For TASL Credit to be applied to the 2024-25 cycle you can upload TASL credit before June 30, 2025.
- For TASL Credit to be applied to the 2025-26 cycle you can upload TASL credit after the July 1st roll over in TNCompass.

Initial administrator evaluator certification

The initial administrator evaluator training process is designed to prepare evaluators to evaluate administrators.
- When the TEAM Training window is open, follow this link to the TeachALL platform. You will be asked to sign in with your SSO or self-created TeachALL account. After you have logged in to TeachALL, use this link to self-enroll in the TEAM Administrator Evaluator Certification course. After you click “Enroll”, the course will appear in your Learner Home tab in TeachALL.
- You must hit Submit to finish the course and submit your scores.

Evaluator recertification
|
2024-25 certified TEAM evaluators may recertify for the 2025-26 school year by passing the recertification test.

CLASS Rubric Certification
|
TEAM implementing districts and charters may elect to use the CLASS rubric for Pre-K observation scores in TNCompass. Though VPK funding now requires for CLASS rubric to be used for coaching and monitoring, it does not require districts or charters to use the CLASS rubric for observation scores.
- If implementing the CLASS rubric for observation scores, Evaluators must be certified yearly.
- Certification is valid through June 30 of the current school year regardless of the certification date.
- Evaluations conducted by non-certified evaluators are inadmissible and are grounds for a grievance.
- Certification obtained from April 2025-March 2026 is valid until June 30, 2026.

Reliability is achieved after participating in a two-day class and passing a test of reliability (score 80% or higher on all domains).

You can sign up to take this course either from Teachstone directly https://teachstone.com/ or you can sign up to take the course with a Teachstone affiliate trainer/TDOE Early Learning Division CLASS trainer.
- After completing your certification, submit your proof of certification to this form.
- The department will upload your credential to TNCompass within 5-7 days of submission to the form.
- The district or charter must grant permissions in TNCompass for you to enter observation data.
