TEAM Training FAQ

Description

  • According to state board policy, 5.201, all educators must be evaluated annually by a certified evaluator.
  • The department conducts certification and recertification training, administers certification tests, issues evaluator credentials, and provides continuous evaluator support for the TEAM rubric.
  • To conduct observations, evaluators must be certified. Conducting observations without full certification is a grievable offense.
  • Certification entails participating in an official state-sponsored TEAM training and passing the subsequent online certification test.
  • Certification is valid through the end of the current school year regardless of the certification date.
  • All evaluator certification training for 2020-21 is virtual.
  • The certification window is from June 10, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
  • Certification is valid until June 2021.

Initial teacher evaluator certification

  • The initial teacher evaluator certification process is designed to prepare evaluators to evaluate teachers and other school service personnel.
  • Register for training and the certification test here.
    • Invitations are emailed weekly each Monday throughout the certification window beginning June 8. If you do not receive an invitation on the Monday following your registration, please contact TEAM.Questions@tn.gov.
    • Upon registration, the following modules must be completed in the department’s learning management system (LMS) before access to the certification test is granted.
      • Module 1: Designed to increase familiarity with the components of TEAM evaluation system including student growth scores, student achievement scores, and teacher observation scores.
      • Module 2: Designed to explore the TEAM domains, pre-conferences, scripting, coding, and scoring evidence.
      • Module 3: Designed to support post-conferences, feedback, professionalism, summative conferences, and a culture of continuous growth.
      • After all three modules have been completed, potential evaluators will gain access to the certification test.
      • Once the test is passed, the certificate will be available and credentialed status will be reflected in TNCompass within 7-10 business days.
        • Districts must staff evaluators in TNCompass as observers before evaluations may be conducted.
  • Completion of all three modules is awarded 14 TASL credit hours. A certificate confirming TASL credit will be emailed to the participant within 7-10 business after course completion.

Initial administrator evaluator certification

  • The initial administrator evaluator training process is designed to prepare evaluators to evaluate administrators.
  • Register for training and the certification test here.

      • Administrator evaluation module: Designed to explore the Tennessee Instructional Leadership Standards (TILS) and the TEAM administrator rubric.
      • After the module has been completed, potential evaluators will gain access to the certification test.
        • Once the test is passed, the certificate will be available and credentialed status will be reflected in TNCompass within 7-10 business days.
        • Districts must staff evaluators in TNCompass as observers before evaluations may be conducted.
  • Completion of this course is awarded 7 TASL credit hours. A certificate confirming TASL credit will be emailed to the participant within 7-10 business after course completion.

Evaluator recertification

  • TEAM evaluators that are currently certified to conduct formal teacher and/or administrator evaluations, may recertify for the 2020-21 school year by completing the recertification module and passing the recertification test.
  • Registration is not required. Invitations to take the recertification test and process details will be sent directly to currently certified evaluators via the email address associated with TNCompass in mid-June.
  •  In order to receive an invitation to recertify and to be enrolled in the test, please ensure the email address listed in TNCompass is accurate and accessible before June 1, 2020.
  • After the recertification module has been completed, potential evaluators will gain access to the certification test.
    • Once the test is passed, the certificate will be available and credentialed status will be reflected in TNCompass within 7-10 business days.
    • Districts must staff evaluators in TNCompass as observers before evaluations may be conducted.
  • Completion of this course is awarded 7 TASL credit hours. A certificate confirming TASL credit will be emailed to the participant within 7-10 business after course completion.
