During the 2012-13 school year, a group of teachers from Memphis City Schools developed and implemented a pilot. three districts implemented the model at scale. After data was collected, the model was submitted to the State Board of Education for approval in the summer of 2013, where it was approved as an optional alternate growth measure.
For the 2013-14 school year, Shelby County Schools’ K-8 teachers implemented the model at scale. The department hopes that the model will continue to expand, granting additional teachers access to their own individual growth scores. Shelby County Schools developed this World Language Portfolio Scoring Guide 2016 as a resource for districts interested in implementing this student growth portfolio model.
